NEW YORK - The UConn women's lacrosse team took home two of four Big East weekly awards as announced by the conference Tuesday. Sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) was named Attacker of the Week for the second time this season while senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) earned her fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Nolan grabbed her second weekly honor after putting up an eight point performance last week. In the 9-8 overtime win against Temple Wednesday, Nolan scored two goals and added an assist, a ground ball and a caused turnover. She added five more points (3g, 2a) and one caused turnover in UConn's 13-10 victory against Vanderbilt Saturday.
After going 2-0 last week, Nee is now 11-2 overall in net. The senior captain totaled a combined 26 saves, picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover in wins against Temple and Vanderbilt. Nee's performance in net helped UConn remain undefeated in conference play, 5-0, and clinch a spot in the Big East Tournament.
Senior Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.) earned a spot on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll for the second consecutive week after tallying her second consecutive hat trick against Temple and adding three more points (2g, 1a) against Vanderbilt on her senior day. She also recorded a combined four ground balls, five caused turnovers and two draw controls on the week.
