CINCINNATI, Ohio – The UConn women's soccer team snagged its first American Athletic Conference win of the season with a 4-0 win against the Bearcats on Sunday at Gettler Stadium.
Sophia Danyko-Kulchcky recorded her first career multi-goal game with a pair of first half tallies and then another goal at the beginning of the second half. The sophomore opened the scoring at the 7:40 mark after having her initial shot saved by the Cincinnati keeper; DK scooped up the rebound and tucked home the score.
The Chappaqua, N.Y. native scored her second goal at the 21:12 mark of the first half by volleying a feed from freshman Pato Jerzak.
DK wasn't done yet, scoring at the 53:34 mark of the second half to notch her first career hat trick. The forward leads the Huskies with seven goals on the season. The seven points (three goals, one assist) a career-high for DK.
The Danyko-Kulchycky hat trick is the first for a UConn player since Rachel Hill tallied three goals vs. Houston back in 2013.
Pato Jerzak added to the UConn lead with a tally less than three minutes after the Danyko-Kulchycky goal in the second half, making it 4-0 Huskies, their largest lead of the season.
The four goals against Cincinnati is the most the Huskies have had against the Bearcats in the 12-game all-time series.
Meanwhile, the UConn defense secured its first shutout of the season with Randi Palacios made four saves in goal. Freshman Kara Long made her first career start and helped the UConn defense earn the clean sheet.
Next up, the Huskies head home to play their final two games in Morrone Stadium history. The team has played at Morrone since the program started play in 1979. Fans coming to the games on Thursday (Oct. 18) and Sunday (Oct. 21) should be aware of road closures on Jim Calhoun Way. The road will be closed from Alumni Drive to I-Lot.
