After a week spent recharging, the UConn football team will travel to Florida this weekend to take on undefeated and Top-20 American Athletic Conference foe, USF.
The football season is grueling, which makes any opportunity for rest crucial in helping team's compete at the highest level.
"It was great," said redshirt freshman Zavier Scott. "We were all able to get healthy and spend time making sure that everyone is on the same page. Whether the time was spent in class or studying plays, it gave us more of an opportunity to get ready for the next team so again, it was a really good thing for us."
When it comes to play in Florida this weekend, adjustment is key.
"It's all about adjusting with them," said Scott, "They're going to adjust based on what they see and we have to do the same."
Week after week it seems that the Huskies are facing teams who don't know much other than winning, USF not being any different as they are heading into the weekend 6-0. For the Huskies, a challenge like this is seen as a learning opportunity more than anything else.
"It's motivating," said senior Tyraiq Beals. "The more and more we go along I think that some of the younger guys are starting to see the opportunity. They're starting to understand that these are big teams and if we beat teams like this, it makes our program look great. It's more of a challenge for us being able to play top teams and go against the best, it makes you excited."
The New Jersey native is quickly closing in on his last season playing as a Husky with only six games to go. Now, his main priority is to show his younger teammates all that needs to be done if they want to succeed once he, along with the rest of the graduating seniors, are gone.
"You have to stay positive all the time," said Beals. "It's hard to play when you're losing but you have to look ahead and look at what you can do to better the team so we can get wins and that's what I want to show these guys."
For the remainder of the season, getting out on the field and giving one hundred percent effort will not only expected from the coaching staff but also from those whose time at UConn is coming to an end.
