UConn Battles Boston University to 1-1 Draw

Boston, Mass. – After picking up the game-tying goal midway through the second period, the UConn women's hockey team used a passionate defensive effort to help the Huskies to a 1-1 tie with Boston University Friday night at Walter Brown Arena.
After falling behind 1-0 after a Sammy Davis goal in the first period, the Huskies responded with the game-tying score from Morgan Wabick at 14:59, scoring off assists from Natalie Snodgrass and Briana Colangelo.
Both goaltenders provided solid performances for their respective teams with UConn's Morgan Fisher posting 40 saves on the night to BU's Corinne Schroeder's 31 stops.
The Huskies killed BU's only power play of the game while converting on 1-4 of their own power play chances.
1st Period:
After two great scoring chances and a power play kill early on for UConn, Boston University struck for the game's first goal. At 14:09, Jesse Compher one touched the puck to Sammy Davis who dragged in and scored from the left circle.
2nd Period
The Huskies found the equalizing goal at the 14:59 mark of the second session. After a high sticking penalty at 14:38 awarded UConn a power play, Natalie Snodgrass took the puck up the ice and dropped off a centering pass to Morgan Wabick who fired a quick strike into the back of the net to tie things up at 1-1.
3rd Period
The third period saw both teams get up and down the ice, as a combined 21 shots were taken (UConn 11, BU 10). Despite the high number of shot attempts, neither team was able to jump in front, as each attack ended in a block or save by the defense.
UConn had three power play opportunities in the third session, but were unable to capitalize on the extra man advantage plays, ending the night 1-4.
BU tried to take the lead on a breakaway in the final two minutes, but a Tristyn Svetek put her body on the line, making a diving save to preserve the 1-1 tie.
OT:
The Huskies controlled the action in overtime, firing 27 shots over the five-minute span. UConn nearly ended the game within the first 10 seconds of the period as Natalie Snodgrass took the puck off a faceoff and got loose for a breakaway but was denied by Corinne Schroeder, the BU keeper.
Morgan Fisher tallied 7 saves in the period, including three huge stuffs in the last 15 seconds of the game.
Game Notes:
- Morgan Wabick scored her fourth goal of the season and now has seven points through six games. The seven points makes her tied for first place with Briana Colangelo.
- Morgan Fisher made a career high 40 saves.
- The Huskies move to 4-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 in Hockey East play.
