Third Varsity 4+ Takes First Place at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. - Facing the three-time reigning American Athletic Conference champions UCF on Friday, the UConn rowing team held its own on Lake Pickett, highlighted by a first-place finish in the Third Varsity 4+.
The Huskies opened their spring season against UCF, Jacksonville and Nova Southeastern on Friday morning, recording one first-place and five second-place finishes - including four races where they finished within 10 seconds of the Knights.
"I am excited about our results today. Every boat felt like they raced competitively and are excited to get faster with more water time," said head coach Jennifer Wendry.
UConn narrowly missed first place in a pair of races, finishing just two seconds behind UCF in the Second Varsity 4+ (7:43.75) and Third Varsity 8+ (6:59.83). In the Varsity 8+, the Huskies (6:43.96) were 10 seconds behind the Knights.
The Third Varsity 4+ beat a pair of UCF boats on its way to first place, completing the course in a time of 7:55.41. The group of Jordan Crinieri, Sara Nelson, Nicole Chaloux, Delaney McGovern and Mae Hanson earned UConn the strong finish.
"I congratulate the Third Varsity 4+ for the win and was excited to see four boats racing within 10 seconds of reigning conference champion UCF," said Wendry.
