Huskies Face 21-8 Setback at No. 8 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 8 nationally ranked Florida Gators outscored UConn 15-4 in the first half on its way to a 21-8 win against the Huskies in BIG EAST action Saturday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla. The Huskies fall to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the loss.
Florida (8-3, 3-0) now owns 25 consecutive victories in BIG EAST match-ups, dating back to 2015. Lindsey Ronbeck led the Gators' big first half with five of her six goals coming during the opening period. Ronbeck finished the day with 10 points as she and teammate Shannon Kavanagh dished out a combined eight of the team's 10 helpers.
Senior Grace Nolan notched four of the Huskies eight goals and won a team-best six draw controls. Nolan recorded all four of her team's goals in the second stanza. Adding to the stat sheet was senior Kelsey Catalano, junior Caitlin Leary and freshmen Sydney Watson and Stephanie Palmucci each picked up a goal in the first half.
Watson and the Huskies opened the scoring at 28:38 but the Gators soon retaliated with three straight goals. UConn was able to keep the score close at 3-2, thanks to a tally form Catalano, before Florida fired off six-straight goals for a 9-2 edge. Florida's goalkeeper Haley Hicken made three saves in the first half to keep the Huskies to a season-low four goals scored.
Sophomore Alyssa Conklin scooped up a season-high four ground balls. Goalkeeper Annie Carroll made a season-best two saves in the cage while playing a career-high 15 minutes.
UConn looks to snap its two-game skid against Villanova on Wednesday, April 4. The tilt will be held at the Sherman Family Complex with opening draw scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
