STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team (5-7, 1-3) is back in action on Saturday, April 7, when it visits Temple (2-2) in BIG EAST action. First draw is set for 1:00 p.m. at Howarth Field.
A Win Would...
A win would snap the Huskies three-game losing streak. A win would also give the Huskies a winning road record at 4-3.
The Series
Saturday's contest marks the eight overall meeting between the two squads in the sport of women's lacrosse. UConn holds a slight 4-3 advantage in the all-time series after defeating Temple, 19-15, last year at the Sherman Family Complex.
Last Time Out
Senior Grace Nolan and Kelsey Catalano scored four goals apiece but it wasn't enough as UConn was edged by Villanova, 13-12, on Wednesday afternoon. Catalano finished the day with a game-high five points in the loss, while classmate Cassie Ekstrom has a strong defensive showing with a team-high six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Sophomore Olivia Miles dished out a pair of helpers in the contest as UConn assisted on seven of its 12 goals scored.
Leading the Pack
Grace Nolan is pacing the Huskies in points (67), goals (44) and assists (23). The senior currently leads the conference in points per game (5.58). The Marcellus, N.Y. native is third in the league with 3.67 goals per game and fourth overall in helpers with 1.92. Cassie Ekstrom is boasting team-bests in ground balls (33) and caused turnovers (24). Freshman Sydney Watson has made in immediate impact with a team-leading 56 draw controls won.
Quick on the Draw
Senior Kelsey Catalano set a new program record in draw controls when she won 11 against Fairfield on Feb. 14.
Leaving Her Tracks
During her time in Storrs, Grace Nolan has established herself as one of the most prolific scorers in program history. Nolan holds a variety of records including points (10) and goals (8) in a single game and most points scored in a single season with 77. Her 33 helpers as a junior rank the second in program history. In the middle of her senior campaign, Nolan has accumulated 250 points, 158 goals and 92 assists.
100 and Counting...
Head Coach Katie Woods reached a career milestone on Feb. 14 as she eclipsed the 100-win plateau with a 13-12 win against Fairfield. Woods, who has coached at UConn for eight years, set the program record for most wins by a head coach last season with 73. Woods captured 74 of her 100 wins as the leader of the Huskies and accumulated her first career 26 wins during her time at American (2007-2010).
Notables
Grace Nolan was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (2/19) after totaling nine points off six goals and three assists in a 1-1 week for the Huskies. Freshman Sydney Watson garnered BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades after a five-point (4g, 1a) performance against No. 7 Syracuse on Feb. 9.
