STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's ice hockey program and head coach Chris MacKenzie have announced the hiring of Katelyn Parker as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2018-19 campaign, following a two-year stint at Brown University.
Parker served as an assistant coach for the Brown women's ice hockey program since September, 2016, recently completing her second year with the Bears. A graduate of Colgate University, she joins the Huskies coming off their third-ever trip to the Hockey East championship game back in March.
"We are excited to welcome Katelyn to UConn," said MacKenzie. "Her energy, work ethic and ability to connect with our student-athletes will help our program."
Over the past two seasons with Brown, Parker helped the team sweep Dartmouth for the first time since 1999-00 and capture its first win over Harvard since the 2001-02 season.
A two-time captain for the Colgate women's ice hockey team, Parker saw the Raiders improve from a 7-25-2 record as a junior to a 22-9-7 mark as a senior and a trip to the ECAC semifinals. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies and Geography in 2016.
Parker was introduced to the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum back in January, as UConn defeated Brown, 5-1, in a non-league matchup in Storrs. The Huskies went on to have an improbable postseason run, leading them to the Hockey East finals after an upset win in the semifinals against No. 3 Boston College.
In the summer of 2013, Parker began her coaching career at the Collins Elite Hockey Camp in her hometown of Bellingham, Wash. She worked with boys and girls ages 8-15, teaching them about the game.
The next two summers, she was a coach at Pro Ambitions Hockey Camp, where she coached players ages 9-17 to improve their skating, skills, speed and overall performance. She also managed the site's daily schedule.
We are excited to welcome Katelyn to #UConnNation!
