Huskies Fall to St. John's in Dog Pound Challenge

UConn heads into AAC play this week
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to St. John's in the title game of the 2018 Dog Pound Challenge Saturday afternoon from Gampel Pavilion. The Red Storm finished the weekend 3-0 to win the tournament and topped the Huskies by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-16. UConn finishes up non-conference play at 8-5 on the season and being American Athletic Conference play this week.
The Red Storm finished the match hitting .310 (36-9-87) with Efrosini Alexakou leading the way with eight kills on her way to winning the tournament MVP award.
UConn was led by r-senior Danielle Cabel (Bettendorf, Iowa) finished with a team-high nine kills while earning a spot on the all-tournament team. Classmate Elizabeth Kline (Glenshaw, Pa.) also was named to the all-tournament team and collected 14 digs in the loss. Freshman Anna Petrova (Voronezh, Russia) came up with eight kills.
The Huskies will head to Texas to open their conference schedule with stops at SMU on September 21 and at Houston on September 23.
