STORRS, Conn. – Opening up AAC action at home, UConn's men's soccer team drew even with USF, 2-2, on Saturday, night at Morrone Stadium.
Dayonn Harris got the scoring going early for the Huskies (4-2-1). Positioned at the top of the box, Harris zipped a shot to the bottom right corner of the net to put UConn ahead 1-0 just past the sixth minute of the first half. That was Harris' first career goal.
USF (2-5-1) knotted the score at one apiece in the 11th minute after the Bulls converted a header off a corner kick. Scoring opportunities were scarce for the rest of the half, as both teams combined for just six shots heading into the break.
The defensive effort by both squads only intensified in the second half, as neither team was able to capitalize on their early shot attempts. The 1-1 tie was finally broken in the 77th minute after a USF goal from a half volley from the top of the box.
That lead didn't last long, however, because less than three minutes later, Abdou Mbacke Thiam found the back of the net after receiving a volley off a low cross from Dayonn Harris to draw even in the contest. Felix Metzler had a chance to win the game in the waning seconds, but his shot from the top of the box sailed over the post.
