WXC Take First At Minuteman Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. -Â Competing in its first meet of the 2018 season, the UConn women's cross-country team notched a first place finish at the Minuteman Invitational on Saturday at UMass. The Huskies finished the three-team meet with 33 total points beating out Vermont with 43 points and UMass with 52 points.
UConn tallied 11 top-25 individual finishers in the 5K event with the top five finishers combining to total the Huskies 33 points.
Freshman Sarah Leatherwood excelled in her first meet, taking fourth overall with a 18:30.42 finish. Sophomore Mia Nahom opened her sophomore campaign in fifth place 18:30.66 second finish, while teammate Brianna O'Brien placing sixth with a time of 18:30.77 and Randi Burr following closely behind taking seventh place with a time of 18:30.92.
Senior Kelsey Swanson (18:49.25, 11th place) , senior Susan Aneno (18:51.76, 12th place), sophomore Allie Alsup (18:54.91, 13th place) and freshman Kate Daley (18:55.21, 14th place) placed in the top 15.
"We had good grouping today and worked well together," head coach J.J. Clark. "There is a long way to go, but we are off to a good start. It was good to see the returners pick up from where they were last year and the freshman make an immediate impact."
