STORRS, Conn. – Three different Huskies scored as the No. 3 UConn field hockey team (11-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) shutout Providence (7-5, 2-2), 3-0, Friday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
Sophomore Maddy Wray, freshman Sophie Hamilton and freshman Erica Solomen each scored against the Friars. Solomen's was the first goal of her collegiate career.
Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher was outstanding in goal, making eight saves in her seventh shutout of the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, Wray found the back of the cage after taking a rebound and scoring on the doorstep. It was Wray's first game back after missing the last three.
After halftime, Hamilton took the ball into the circle and scored on a backhanded shot at 40:56. Solomen's first collegiate goal came on another backhanded shot at 52:42.

Five of Sprecher's saves came in the fourth quarter, including one with less than 10 seconds left in the game.
UConn led 19-13 in shots and 6-1 in penalty corners.
The Huskies return to the Complex Sunday for a top-10 matchup against No. 10 Delaware at noon. It will be UConn's annual Pink Game.
