STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's cross country team returns to action Saturday, October 5th when they travel to Lehigh University to compete in the Paul Short Run. The race is UConn's second of the season, after finishing second overall at the Minuteman Invitational at UMass on September 7th.
Junior Mia Nahom led the Huskies as their top-finisher at UMass, earning a sixth-place finish with a time of 17:49. Graduate student Ericka Randazzo finished in eighth place with a time of 17:52. A pair of sophomores, Kate Daley and Randi Burr, also finished in the top 15 runners, finishing with times of 18:18 and 18:23 respectively.
Following a good performance last time out, Head Coach Lindsay Crevoiserat spoke about the team's preparation. "We've had four weeks to train and we are feeling good. There's always room for improvement, but it will be a good test for us." The Huskies are eager to race again and are looking forward to the Paul Short Run as another challenge this season.
"With the open race and the gold race, we have a lot of opportunity for success," said Crevoiserat. "It will be good to see where everyone is to this point and how we move forward. This weekend is a nice checkpoint for Princeton and the conference races also."
The Huskies finished last year's Paul Short Run in sixth place, tallying 372 points and an average time of 21:35.
The 46th Annual Paul Short Run will feature roughly 6,000 student-athletes from 450 colleges and high schools. This year's race, like previous years, will feature 14 races throughout the day including six college, six high school, and two open races. The open race for the women is set to begin at 10:15 am and the gold race is scheduled for an 11:45 am start time.
