CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – It was a senior-led performance Friday afternoon at Kelley Rink. Briana Colangelo netted the game-winning goal, Emily Reid notched her first tally of the season, and netminder Morgan Fisher racked up 38 saves to help lead UConn to a 2-1 victory over the sixth-ranked Boston College Eagles in Chestnut Hill.
The Huskies moved to 2-0 in the season series against the Eagles and grab their first regular season series win over Boston College since 2006-07. UConn improves to 8-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in Hockey East play. Boston College sees its record drop to 10-3-1, 9-3-1 in league action.
The teams will wrap up the regular season series tomorrow afternoon at the Freitas Ice Forum. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
Boston College struck for the games first goal at the 10:50 mark of the first period. Savannah Norcross converted a goal off a power play to put the Eagles up 1-0, a lead they'd take into the first intermission.
The Huskies knotted the game up early in the second period off the stick of Reid. The senior defenseman placed a little knuckle puck over the shoulder of Boston College goalie Kelly Pickreign to tie the game at one at 2:32. Freshman Kaitlyn Yearwood and junior Savannah Bouzide earned assists on the play after setting up the tying goal.
Colangelo gave UConn their first lead of the afternoon – a lead the Huskies wouldn't relinquish. Natalie Snodgrass set up the game-winning strike, stealing the puck after applying some defensive pressure and feeding the puck cross-ice to Colangelo. The senior took the puck, skated into the crease and used a shoulder fake to get Pickreign leaning before putting the puck bottom center to give UConn a 2-1 lead.
UConn sealed the victory with timely blocks from the defensemen and clutch saves by Fisher.
