UConn Wraps Fall Schedule at Army West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The UConn men's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule over the weekend playing the Army West Point Invitational. The Huskies competed with the host Black Knights, Marist, St. John's, St. Bonaventure, NJIT, Monmouth and Holy Cross in a blind dual match draw. Â
UConn freshman Rami Scheetz (Cedar Rapids, Ia.) and junior Yili Zheng (Shanghai, China) came up with a singles win and a pair of doubles victories over the weekend. Against Marist, Scheetz earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Nestor Giribet Lopez while Zheng defeated Augusto Bonorino, 6-3 and 6-4. Sophomore Christian Provenzano (Montclair, N.J.) also earned a singles win against Marist, beating John Oxner in a three-set battle, 7-6, 2-6 and 14-12.
Scheetz and Zheng teamed for a doubles win over SBU's Martin Estevarena and John Rutkowski, 7-5. Scheetz and junior John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) were 6-4 winners over NJIT's Josh Smith and Samuel Townes. Zheng got another doubles win by teaming with Alex Yu (Nanjing, China) to beat Matthew Murphy and Robert Hagan, 6-2. Â
Holtmann and Provenzano also grabbed a doubles win together, beating Will Chen and Alexander Ruenhorst of Holy Cross, 6-3. Freshmen Nocholas Gore (Kingston, Jamaica) and Luke Riemann (Cheshire, Conn.) teamed up for a 6-3 win over Declan O'Flynn and Connor Nelson of Holy Cross.
