UConn Routs UNH, 88-62

HARTFORD, Conn. – Alterique Gilbert poured in 21 points, Christian Vital contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, and the UConn men's basketball team used a quick second-half start to blow the game open as the Huskies coasted to an 88-62 victory over the New Hampshire Wildcats Sunday afternoon at the XL Center.
The Huskies had two more players finish the game in double figures – James Bouknight notched 14 points and seven boards off the bench while Akok Akok added 12 points.
UNH came out fast and took an 18-9 lead after the second media timeout. The Huskies responded by outscoring the Wildcats 21-5 over the ensuing seven minutes, including a 15-0 run that gave UConn a 24-18 advantage. UConn would maintain the lead, and went into the halftime break ahead by four, 40-36.
It didn't take long for the Huskies to grab complete control in the second half. Akok Akok drained a triple to open up the second frame and then Gilbert followed with the next 11 points to help UConn open up a 54-39 lead.
The Huskies forced nine turnovers, held a 20-0 margin in bench points and outscored the Wildcats 48-26 in the second half to coast to the 26-point win and move to 8-3 on the season.
