Huskies and Warriors Skate to 2-2 Draw

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The UConn women's hockey team got goals from freshman Danielle Fox and sophomore Morgan Wabick, but two second period Merrimack scores produced a 2-2 tie at Lawler Rink on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies get one point on the weekend and improve to 14-15-4 overall and 9-14-4 in Hockey East.
UConn got off to a fast start, putting two on the board after Fox tallied her first career goal and Morgan Wabick's added her 10th of the season. The Huskies held a 2-0 lead heading into the second, but couldn't keep Merrimack at bay.
Merrimack's Gabby Jones scored at the 1:46 mark to pull her team within 2-1. The Warriors found the equalizer five minutes later when Jessica Bonfe was able to sneak a shot past the glove of UConn netminder Samanatha Carpentier-Yelle.
The Huskies got 28 saves from the Carpentier-Yelle in salvaging a point on the weekend and outshot the Warriors 41-30. Merrimack goaltender Samantha Ridgewell stopped 39 shots.
1st Period
The Huskies got out to a fast start and put pressure on the Terriers throughout the first period, holding a 13-7 edge on shots.
After Danielle Fox's one-timer hit off the boards, Danika Pasqua collected the puck and wrapped around the backside of the net. Pasqua sent a wraparound pass to Fox and the freshman tapped in her first career goal to make it 1-0 a t 7:51.
UConn put one more on the board late about a minute later (8:59) on Morgan Wabick's 10th of the season. Taylor Wabick whipped the puck through four defenders over to her sister Morgan, and the sophomore forward used a deke fake to get an opening on the Merrimack goalie and knocked it into the back of the cage to take a two-goal lead.
2nd Period
The home team put two on the board in the second to comeback and tie the game, 2-2, heading into the third.
Emily Vorke fired a shot on net that was blocked by the pad of freshman netminder Samantha Carpentier-Yelle. The puck deflected out and Gabby Jones was able to collect the rebound and score to cut the UConn lead to one, 2-1, just two minutes in.
Merrimack knotted the score up at 6:55 after Jessica Bonfe sent a backhander that sailed past Carpentier-Yelle's glove and into the back right of the cage.
3rd Period
UConn upped its offensive pressure in the third of regulation as it held a five attempt advantage in shots on goal in the final period. The road team had some opportunities to break through, but were unfortunately denied at the doorstep by netminder Savannah Ridgewell.
Overtime
The Huskies kept the offensive pressure on, outshooting the Warriors 7-4 in the extra session. Ridgwell recorded seven saves while Carpentier-Yelle collected four, keeping the game tied, 2-2 at the final horn.
