Huskies Drop Contest 7-2 at Charleston

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The UConn baseball team dropped the second game of the series against College of Charleston, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon at Patriot's Point.
The Huskies got off to a quick start with a double off the bat of Mike Woodworth to begin the ballgame. Senior John Toppa followed with a two-run homer to put UConn in front in the first. It was the first time this season that the Huskies scored first.
Charleston responded with a Danny Wondrack solo home run in the second and grabbed the lead for good in the third on a two-run single for the Charleston catcher.
Avery Santos and Jimmy Wang each threw 2.1 innings out of the bullpen. Santos scattered three hits, gave up zero walks and struck out three in his scoreless outing. Wang allowed one run on two hits and picked up a pair of strikeouts.
Mike Woodworth registered a three-hit effort while Paul Gozzo collected his first career multi-hit game with a pair of hits on Saturday.
The Huskies look to bounce back on Sunday in a rubber game beginning at noon.
