Huskies carryover success into Day Two of Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla—The UConn women's track and field team vied for position on Day Two of the 2019 Pepsi Florida Relays. The Huskies emerged with several top-10 finishes and five top-20 finishes on the day.
UConn competed in the 400 Meter Dash, 800 Meter Run, Pole Vault, 400 Meter Hurdles, Long Jump, 4x400 Meter Relays-Prelims, 1500 Meter Run, and Javelin Throw.
On the track, senior Kat Surin posted a tenth place finish in the 400 Meters with a time of 52.94. Fellow senior, Susan Aneno's top-20 finish in the 800 Meters came with a time of 2:08.47. Connecticut's 4x400 Meter Relay team of junior Kristina Cherrington, Surin, freshman Dejanee Parms, and junior Tia Strackman finished eighth in the prelims with a time of 3:42.14.
A pair of Huskies finished in the top-20 in the 400 Meter Hurdles with Cherrington leading the way with a time of 1:00.18 and Strackman closely behind at 1:00.92.
Senior Talia Staiger 24th—4:38.44, sophomore Rachel Vick 37th—4:42.60, and senior Kelsey Swanson 43rd—4:44.97 all competed in the 1500 Meter Run.
In the field events, junior Thalia Ghalam paced UConn at 45.44m (149-01) with a ninth place finish. Freshman Emma Chee has been rewriting history with her tremendous efforts in the pole vault. She placed in the top-15 with an effort of 3.80m (12-05.50.) Sophomore Taylor Woods' leap of 5.69m was good enough for a finish of12th.
