STORRS, Conn. – Senior Lexi Kenneally registered a team-leading five points (2g, 3a) and sophomore Sydney Watson notched two goals and an assist, but UConn women's lacrosse (2-11, 0-2 AAC) fell, 17-13, to Temple (4-8, 1-1 AAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Sherman Family Complex.
In addition to Kenneally and Watson, seniors Brooke Jensen and Dani Dunn, along with sophomore Abby Vetsch, each added two goals apiece, respectively. Lia LaPrise, Olivia Miles and Anna Costello found the back of the net as well. Junior goalkeeper Grace Beshlian made 10 saves in the defeat.
The opening 30 minutes between the Huskies and the Owls featured some exciting back-and-forth action as neither team was able to gain breathing room. After Temple took a 2-1 lead, the Huskies countered with strikes from Anna Costello and Olivia Miles to regain the lead. UConn held a 6-5 advantage after the conference foes had traded the previous six goals, but Temple's Kimmy Weinstock nailed a free position attempt with 47 seconds left to tie the game at six heading into halftime.
A four goal run for the Owls gave Temple a 10-7 lead just six minutes into the second half, but the Huskies would tie the score at 10 soon after – capped off by a conversion from Vetsch at 20:19.
Another 4-0 spurt put the visitors out in front 14-10. UConn would cut the deficit to two goals following Dunn and Vetsch's second tallies of the afternoon, but Temple would prevail with two timely goals in the final two and a half minutes.
