Huskies in great position after Day One of NCAA prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Six of the seven Huskies saw action today on Day One of the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, competing in their solo events on the afternoon. UConn tallied a pair of qualifying times from the senior duo of Kat Surin and Susan Aneno.
Surin competed in her staple event, the 400 Meter Dash. Her top-20 finish of 14th saw her cross the finish line at 52.99.
Aneno took to the track at 8:20 p.m. to take on other student-athletes in her signature event, the 800 Meter Run. She finished a pair of places back of Surin's finish but still notched a top-20 time of 2:05.93, finishing 16th overall.
Thalia Ghalam started the day off for the Huskies in the javelin throw. Her 44.20m (145-0) mark landed her just shy of the top-30, at 31st overall. Following her in the field events were Chanell Botsis and Taylor Woods.
Botsis notched yet another successful effort in the hammer throw with a mark of 59.81m (196-2). This finish placed her in the top-20 in the event, to be 19th overall.
In the long jump Woods was the lone representative for UConn and did not disappoint. She concluded the first round at 34th overall and 5.84m (19-2).
Kristina Cherrington kick started the track events on the day and represented the Huskies in the 400 Meter Hurdles. She finished 39th overall at 1:01.59.
Day Two for UConn will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the track with the 400 Meter Dash. The event to follow for the Huskies will be the 800 Meter Run at 6:30 p.m. FloTrack will be broadcasting the events in addition to live results provided by the NCAA.
