JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—UConn women's track and field student-athletes, Kat Surin and Susan Aneno punched their tickets to the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas with their outstanding performances on Day Two of the NCAA East Preliminaries.
The two were the only events for the Huskies on the evening, and the senior duo made the most out of the day. Surin competed in the 400 Meter Dash Quarterfinals with Aneno vying for position in the 800 Meter Quarterfinals.
Surin's finish on Thursday advanced her to today's race where she finished eighth overall at 52.44. This is the second time this outdoor season that she has posted this exact time, her personal best, in this event.
Aneno rounded out to top-5 of this very competitive race. Her time of 2:04.17 placed her fifth overall in a field of 24 student-athletes.
"Kat ran an extremely gutsy race. I have never seen her dig down so much…congrats to her on a well-deserved advancement to the NCAA meet next month! Susan ran two very strategic races to get to the NCAA final round for the second consecutive year. So to her, I say congrats on returning to the NCAA final round!"
