Seven Huskies to compete at NCAA Prelims

STORRS, Conn—Seven student-athletes from Head Coach J.J. Clark's women's track and field team will represent the University of Connecticut at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
The three-day meet will begin Thursday, May 23rd in the field with the men's hammer throw at noon. Track events will begin around 4:30 p.m. with the women's 400 Meter Hurdles. FloTrack will be broadcasting the event in its entirety in correlation with live results provided by the NCAA.
All 12 of the institutions that make up the American Athletic Conference will be represented during the preliminary rounds, a total of 65 men and 83 women. To qualify for the prelims, the student-athletes had to be in top-48 as an individual or the top-24 relay teams. With the top-12 individuals and relays will move on to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.

HUSKIES IN THE MEET
Susan Aneno will be competing in her signature event, the 800 Meter Run, as well as the 4x400 Meter Relay. She has become a staple in both events, but most recently named a three-time outdoor conference champion in the mid-distance run.
In the hammer throw Chanell Botsis will look to carry over her dominance, drawing from her conference performance not long ago. She etched yet another school mark in the event all while taking home silver for her 61.81m effort, to pass the AAC record set in 2016 of 61.40m.
Kristina Cherrington will be taking on challengers in the 400 Meter Hurdles and in the 4x400 Meter Relay. She took home bronze in the hurdles along with shattering another school record in the event at 59.89.
In the javelin throw Thalia Ghalam will look to make her mark at the prelims in her third season as a Husky. Ghalam's most recent mark of 44.39m (145' 7") garnered her a top-10 finish at the conference meet.
Dejanee Parms will be the third runner in the 4x400 Meter Relay. She aided the relay team to its first-place finish and title since 2015 at 3:35.06.
Kat Surin is a mainstay in the 400 Meter Dash and will look to continue her impressive senior season in the event. Amongst the top competition back on May 12th, she reaped the benefits of her hard work and dedication by taking first-place in the race at 52.56. This was an improvement from her top-5 finish last season. Surin will also take part in the 4x400 Meter Relay.
Taylor Woods will be the representative in the long jump. On Day Two of the conference meet, she took home bronze in the event with a leap of 6.13m (20-01.50).
