Football Makes First Road Trip of 2019

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The UConn football team heads out on its first road trip of the season with a contest against the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, September, 21 at 12 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
The Huskies bring a much-improved defense into Saturday's contest as UConn ranks 19th nationally in total defense (271.0 yards/game) after two games in 2019. The team finished  last in FBS in 2018, giving up 617.4 yards a game last season.Â

Through two games the Huskies have made dramatic improvements on the defensive side of the ball. UConn ranks fourth in The American with 271 yards allowed per game and are third in the conference with 154.4 passing yards alllowed. UConn is second in the league with 16.5 first downs allowed per game. Navy has the fewest at 12.0 per game.

Graduate transfer D.J. Morgan has burst onto the scene for the Huskies and is becoming a leader of an improved UConn defense.
Morgan, a transfer from Notre Dame, leads The American Conference with 9.5 tackles per game. Overall, he has 19 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.Â
UCONN VS.INDIANA HISTORYÂ
Saturday's game will be the third meeting between UConn and Indiana on the gridiron. The Huskies are 2-0 against the Hoosiers. UConn celebrated
the opening of Rentschler Field on Aug. 30, 2003 with an impressive 34-10 victory against the Hoosiers behind Dan Orlovsky's three touchdown passes. In 2006, Danny Lansanah recorded a pick-six to help the Huskies earn a 14-7 road win.Â

UConn plays a pair of Big Ten teams in 2019 with matchups against Illinois and Indiana. The Huskies lost to Illinois on September 7, 31-23, in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. UConn is 14-27 all-time against current Big Ten teams. Indiana (2-0), Illinois (0-1) Maryland (1-2), Michigan (0-2) and Rutgers (11-22).Â
