Huskies Begin Conference Play in Florida

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn volleyball team will face UCF and USF in its first American Athletic Conference games of the season this weekend. The Huskies and UCF are set to play Friday, September 27th at 7pm in Orlando. UConn will take on USF on Sunday, September 29th at 12pm in Tampa.
This Week's Matchups
The Knights (7-5) enter conference play after hosting the Sunshine State Classic last weekend. UCF fell to Florida Gulf Coast (3-1) and Miami (3-2) before closing out the weekend with a win over Florida Atlantic (3-0). McKenna Melville leads the offense with a team-high 4.06 kills per set, while Mackenzie Kuchmaner and Nerissa Moravec lead the defense with 3.52 digs per set and 66 blocks respectively.
The Bulls (6-8) are coming off a win against Bethune-Cookman (3-0) on Tuesday night after hosting the USF Invitational last weekend where they dropped the first game against Indiana (3-2). USF fell to the Hoosiers (3-1) again before finishing the weekend with a win against Stetson (3-0). The offense is led by Lindsey Pliapol, who has a team-high 3.20 kills per set, and Lauren Labeck, who leads the team with 7.44 assists per set. The Bulls defense is anchored by CC Clausen recording a team-high 4.18 digs per set and Ally Barnhart leading the team with 54 blocks on the season.
Last Time Out
The Huskies open conference play following a sweep of the Dog Pound Challenge last weekend. UConn hosted the tournament and defeated Holy Cross (3-2), Dartmouth (3-1), and Providence (3-2). R-Junior Genna Florig hit at .417 over the weekend, recording 36 kills and 17 digs. R-Sophomore Courtney Morris tallied 120 assists and 31 digs, hitting at .360 throughout the weekend. Sophomore Caylee Parker had a team-high 46 kills and added 37 digs and R-Junior Avery Spaziani led the Huskies with 40 digs.
