Huskies Drop Conference Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. – The UConn volleyball team fell to UCF (3-0) in its American Conference opening match. The Huskies drop to 6-7 on the season, while the Knights improve to 8-5.
How it Happened
UConn got out to a fast start in the first set, going up 6-2 early on. The Knights fought back hard, taking 11 of the next 12 points to take a 13-7 lead. The Huskies battled to cut the UCF lead, but ultimately fell by a score of 25-16.
The second set began with back and forth action with the teams exchanging points. The Huskies cut the lead to 6-4 before the Knights scored five straight points to widen the lead. Down 21-10 late in the set, UConn clawed back, taking six of the next eight points. The comeback fell short, however, and UCF took the second set 25-17.
After going down 4-0 to begin the third set, the Huskies stormed back and tied the game with four straight points. A few hard fought rallies found UConn down 7-5 with plenty of game left. The Knights offense gained momentum, however, and took the third and final set 25-11.
Tough Task
The Huskies were up against the best defense in the conference and it was on full display. The Knights had a total 11 blocks on the night, making it difficult for the Huskies to find a rhythm. R-Sophomore Courtney Morris had a team-high 17 assists and added four kills. Sophomore Caylee Parker led the team with 11 kills. R-Junior Avery Spaziani led the Huskies with 10 digs on the evening.

The Huskies will look to bounce back as they head to Tampa to take on University of South Florida on Sunday, September 29th at 12 pm. The Bulls are coming off a 3-0 victory against Temple.
