UConn is on the road on Saturday night as they head to Schneider Arena to take on the No. 12 nationally ranked Providence Friars.
The Huskies and Friars will wrap-up their three-game Hockey East season series on Saturday. In November, the two teams skated to a 3-3 tie in Hartford and the Friars posted a 5-2 win over the Huskies at home. PC owns a 10-2-3 record against UConn all-time and is 9-1-2 against the Huskies since they joined Hockey East in 2014-15.
UConn is winless in their last four and is looking to snap a three-game losing streak heading into Saturday's match-up. The Huskies are coming off a 6-2 loss at home on Tuesday night to Merrimack.Â
UConn enters the weekend tied for seventh place in the Hockey East standings with Maine, sitting at 4-6-2 with 10 points. Providence is coming off a 5-0 win over AIC on Thursday night and they are currently in third place in the league standings at 6-4-2 and 14 points, just a point behind UMass Lowell and Northeastern for first place.
In Tuesday's loss to Merrimack, the Huskies got goals from senior Justin Howell, his second on the season, and sophomore Marc Gatcomb, his fifth.
Senior defenseman Wyatt Newpower had two assists in the loss, his third multi-point game this season. Newpower leads all UConn defensemen with 10 points (2g/8a) on the year and leads the team with a +6 rating. He is currently fifth in Hockey East in blocked shots, averaging 1.35 pg.
Freshman Vladislav shares the team lead in scoring with 13 points on the season, on six goals and seven assists. He also shares the team lead in goals scored (6) with sophomores Jachym Kondelik and Carter Turnbull. Firstov is tied for eighth among Hockey East rookies in scoring.
Senior Benjamin Freeman is tied for the team lead with 13 points (3g/10a). Freeman is also one of the top face-off men in Hockey East, ranking fifth with a .592 win percentage (174-120).
Junior defenseman Adam Karashik is third in Hockey East in blocked shots. Karashik has 29 blocks, an average 1.53 per game.Â
Sophomore Jonny Evans missed six games with injury during November. Since returning for the Vermont series, he has six points over the past six games, coming on four goals and two assists.
