TAMPA, Fla. – James Bouknight scored 11 points off the bench and Akok Akok added 10 points and four rebounds of his own, but the UConn men's basketball team fell to USF, 75-60, Saturday afternoon in Tampa.
UConn led by as many as six points during the opening frame and held a 14-9 lead after a triple from Adams and a pullup jumper from Vital. Another three from Adams and a bucket in the paint from Bouknight helped keep the Huskies on top, but a USF run to end the period gave the Bulls a 39-32 lead at the break.
The Husky offense went cold to start the second half, as USF opened up a double-digit advantage. A sequence of baskets from Vital, Akok and Sidney Wilson comprised a 7-0 run to help UConn cut the deficit to 12 heading into the under-eight timeout.
The Bulls pushed their lead back to 19 following back-to-back baskets from Laquincy Rideau and held on for the win.
