Huskies Set For Friday Matchup with Quinnipiac

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's lacrosse team heads to Hamden, Connecticut to take on Quinnipiac on Friday afternoon. Opening draw is slated for 2:00pm at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.

Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac began the season with three roads games and will play its first of three straight home games Friday. The Bobcats grabbed their first win of the season on Sunday with a 15-13 win over LIU after dropping the opening two games of the season to Bryant, 14-12, and Wagner, 19-10. Senior Megan Szawlowski leads the Quinnipiac offense with a team-high nine goals and 10 points on the season. Three other Bobcats have tallied six points thus far.
Matchup History
UConn boasts a 7-1 record against Quinnipiac since the 2009 season. The Bobcats last win came at home in 2009 by a score of 11-10. The Huskies have since won seven straight games, including the most recent matchup in 2016. In that meeting, UConn shut out Quinnipiac 21-0 at the Sherman Family Complex.
Last Time Out
The Huskies are out to a 3-1 start to the 2020 season and have won two straight games. UConn traveled to Durham on Sunday where they took down the hosts UNH 21-8. Junior Sydney Watson and sophomore Grace Coon had four goals each. Sophomore Lia LaPrise tallied three goals and three assists for six points and leads the team with 22 points this season. The Huskies had nine different goal scorers against UNH and 11 players record at least a point.
High-Powered Offense
Through four games this season, the Huskies have scored 68 goals. They have broken the 20-goal mark twice this season against UMass Lowell and UNH. The UConn offense has produced a balanced attack so far this season, with 13 different players getting on the scoresheet. Six Huskies have also scored five or more goals this season, while three players, LaPrise, Watson and junior Stephanie Palmucci, have hit double digit points.
Huskies in the National Rankings
Two Huskies currently sit in the top 10 in the national rankings. Sydney Watson is tied for fifth in goals with 18 and tied for eighth in the country in goals per game with 4.50. Lia LaPrise is tied for seventh in the country in assists with 12 and tied for tenth in assists per game with 3.00. The Huskies are also tied for tenth in the country in scoring offense, averaging 17.00 goals per game.
