Huskies Earn First Road Win With 72-56 Victory at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The UConn men's basketball team got back in the win column Thursday night with a 72-56 win at Tulsa. The Huskies (12-10, 3-6 AAC) grab their first road win of the season and hand the Golden Hurricane (15-7, 7-2 AAC) their first loss in seven games.
Freshman James Bouknight poured in a team-high 22 points, including a 19-point offensive explosion in the second half, and grabbed five rebounds to lead the triumph. Alterique Gilbert aided the UConn offense with 17 points, Isaiah Whaley notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards, and Christian Vital rounded out the double figure scorers after adding 10 points and four rebounds of his own.
Jalen Gaffney gave UConn a two-point lead early in the first after drilling a triple from the corner, but an ensuing 7-0 run by the Golden Hurricane gave them a 15-10 lead at the 11:53 mark. Tulsa maintained its lead and held a six-point advantage with 4:07 remaining after a pair of Martins Igbanu free throws. The Huskies would grab some momentum just before the break, closing the half on a 13-5 run to take a 31-29 lead into the locker room. Gilbert provided the offensive spark with 10 points.
Second half action opened up with both teams going on runs, commencing with a 7-0 burst by the Huskies that gave them a 42-31 lead. Tulsa showed their resiliency and clawed back into the game using a 12-2 spurt to cut the deficit to one at 12:06.
UConn remained poised and built up a 57-47 advantage with 8:52 remaining in the second half. Bouknight dominated during this stretch, scoring UConn's next 13 points. Whaley gave the Huskies an 11-point lead with 3:20 to go on a putback slam and Tulsa wouldn't get any closer. UConn closed out the ballgame and grabbed a 16-point road victory.
