CLINTON, S.C. - The UConn baseball team (4-5) look to rebound from a series loss at New Orleans last weekend with a trip to Presbyterian for a three-game set.
With rain throughout the South Carolina area the past few days, Friday's series opener has been pushed to Saturday. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Nick Krauth and Joe Simeone will get the starting nods for the Huskies on Saturday, while Colby Dunlop is set to start on the hill in the series finale on Sunday.
Series History... UConn played Presbyterian for the first time in program history back in 2013. The Huskies lost both games in Clinton and won the middle game of the series at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. The Huskies have played in the Palmetto state for three-straight seasons, recording an 11-8 record during that stretch.
Not How You Start...The Huskies are 4-5 through the first nine games of the season, which is a familiar spot for UConn. Since the 2014 season the Huskies have either been one game over or one game under .500 through their first nine contests.
Blowouts Early... Through nine games, the Huskies have played only one game that has been decided by less than five runs (W, 8-7 vs. MIchigan). Last season the Huskies played 19 games separated by five runs or more, the Huskies have alrady totaled eight.
Star of the Staff... Junior RHP Nick Krauth has been the best starter in the UConn starting rotation and given them some much needed quality starts on Sundays. The Diablo Valley CC transfer is 3-0 with a 0.51 ERA, allowing one earned run in 17.2 innings of work. He has posted 18 strikeouts including a career-high eight in a seven-inning performance against New Orleans.
Four Hit Games...The Huskies have already had three players record four-hit contests in the first nine games of the season. Reggie Crawford, Erik Stock and Kyler Fedko have all accomplished the feat. Last season the Huskies had three players the entire year register a four-hit effort. Mike Woodworth had a four-hit game and five-hit game, Pat Winkel had two four-hit games and John Toppa had one.
