Huskies Upset No. 21 Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore Lucy Cappadona scored the game winner as the UConn women's soccer team 9-7-1, 5-4-1 BIG EAST) upset No. 21 Georgetown (11-1-6, 7-1-2), 1-0, Thursday afternoon.
With the win, the Huskies have secured a spot in the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship. UConn will be either the fifth or sixth seed, depending on the Providence-Marquette game.
The loss was Georgetown's first since Nov. 16, 2019. It was the first time the Hoyas were held scoreless since Sept. 9.
Cappadona's goal came in the 58th minute. Sophomore Jaydah Bedoya sent in a cross from the right side, bringing the keeper to the ground, and Cappadona tapped the ball into the open goal. It was Cappadona's second goal of the season and Bedoya's team-leading 16th point.
UConn's defense was stifling throughout the game, limiting Georgetown to nine shots and just one on goal. Sophomore Kaitlyn Mahoney was aggressive in goal, coming out to challenge Hoya plays and opportunities.
The BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship will begin Sunday, Oct. 31.
