No. 20 FH Beats No. 21 Delaware, 2-1, to Close Regular Season

STORRS, Conn. - After back-to-back tough overtime losses, the No. 20 UConn field hockey team (10-10, 5-2 BIG EAST) bounced back with a 2-1 victory against No. 21 Delaware on Sunday afternoon at the Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies needed some momentum heading into their BIG EAST Championship next week that beigns against Old Dominion on Friday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m.Â
The Blue Hens jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period but the Huskies were able to respond.Â
Claire Jandewerth scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season and third goal of the weekend with her strike off a UConn penalty corner in the second quarter.
The score remained tied until the third quarter, the Huskies earned another penalty corner and Jandewerth's shot was deflected right to Erica Solomen in front of the cage. The junior tapped it home for her second of the year and turned out to be the game-winner.
Cheyenne Sprecher made six saves in the victory, while Madison DiPietro made a huge team save to lift the Huskies.
DiPietro deflected, a bouncing ball headed towards an open goal, off the post and then cleared it out of danger.
UConn will look to win its 10th-straight BIG EAST Tournament title next weekend in Storrs.
