Jandewerth Goal Sends Huskies to BIG EAST Championship Game, 2-1

STORRS, Conn. - The second-seeded UConn field hockey team (11-10) defeated Old Dominion, 2-1, on a Claire Jandewerth strike to advance to the Huskies 20th-straight BIG EAST Championship game.Â
UConn led on a second quarter goal from Jessica Dembrowksi, her fifth of the season, 1-0 heading into the fourth quarter. The Monarch were able to even the score at the 48:33 mark of the game.

The game looked headed for overtime but the Huskies earned its second penalty corner of the match. Dembrowski inserted to Lindsay Dickinson and Jandewerth took her pass and blasted home her 11th goal of the season and seventh goal in her last nine games.
Despite being outshot 11-5 and the Monarchs holding an 8-2 edge on penalty corrners, the Huskies were able to prevail and give themselves a shot to win its 10th-straight BIG EAST tournament title on Sunday.
The Huskies will face off against top-seeded Liberty, who defeated Temple, 4-2, earlier in the day.Â
The championship match will be on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.Â
