STORRS, Conn. - For the first time since 2011, the UConn field hockey team lost a match in the BIG EAST Championship, with a 1-0 defeat to No. 1 seeded Liberty on Sunday afternoon at the Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The loss snapped a 19-game win streak in the BIG EAST Championship since losing to Syracuse in the BIG EAST Championship game in 2011.Â
The Huskies looked like they had jumped in front on a Sophia Ugo goal just 32 seconds into the match. However, a third party infraction wiped the goal off the board.Â
The score remained 0-0 until Jill Bolton capitalized on a UConn turnover and scored the game-winner at the 41:08 mark.
UConn had a pair of penalty corners in the fourth quarter but were unable to find the equalizer.Â
Cheyenne Sprecher, Abby Gooderham and Claire Jandewerth all earned BIG EAST All-Tournament team honors for the Huskies.
For Jessica Dembrowski (105 games) and Kourtney Kennedy (101 games), they become the first UConn players to play over 100 career games in their illustrious UConn careers.
With an 11-11 record, the Huskies are unlikely to receive an at-large bid to the 2021 NCAA Championship. The NCAA Selection Show is on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 10 p.m. on NCAA.com
