Huskes Fall Just Short To #4 Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass.- The University of Connecticut women's hockey team fell to #4 Northeastern Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-2.
Northeastern started the game out strong immediately attacking the UConn defense and putting pucks on net. Northeastern's best chance came with 10 minutes to go in the first period when a shot was kick saved by senior goaltender Samantha Carpentier-Yelle. The play was reviewed by officials but declared a no goal.
Following the review UConn would pressure the Northeastern defense which would result in a powerplay opportunity for the Huskies. While on the double power play senior Viki Harkness would fight through multiple defenders in front and push the puck into the back of the net giving UConn the 1-0 lead. UConn would head into the period break leading by one goal and outshooting Northeastern 12-11.
The second period would start very similar to the first. Northeastern would come out on the attack and pepper Carpentier-Yelle with shots. UConn would not back down as junior Kate Thurman would take the puck along the boards and fire a shot that sneaks right past the Northeastern goaltender to give UConn the 2-0 lead.
Northeastern would respond with a goal of their own late in the second period while on the powerplay to cut the UConn lead to 1. The period would end with UConn holding a one goal lead. The defense holding strong as Samantha-Carpentier-Yelle has 18 saves while the team has eight blocks.
The third period would start and Northeastern would come out aggressive. They would eventually tie the game on the power play with 12 minutes to go in the third period. Northeastern would take the lead with 5 minutes left in the third period. Unable to mount a comeback the game would end with UConn falling 3-2.
