No. 20 UConn Blanked at No. 16 Providence, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 16 Providence Friars got 20 saves from sophomore goaltender Jaxson Stauber on the way to posting 4-0 win over the visiting No. 20 UConn Huskies Friday afternoon at Schneider Arena.
The Huskies were shutout for the first time this season and were held to a season-low 20 shots on the night. UConn sees their record even up at 8-8-2 on the year. The Friars improve to 9-6-4 with the win.
Providence junior Tyce Thompson scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the win. Thompson and Patrick Moynihan both scored in the first period to give the Friars a 2-0 lead they would never give up.
Parker Ford added a power play goal for the Friars and also got an assist. UConn was 0-for-6 on the power play on the night. Junior Tomas Vomacka (Trutnov, Czech Republic) made 28 saves for the Huskies in the loss.
1st period:
The Friars put two on the board in the first period and also killed of three UConn power plays. Thompson opening the scoring at the 6:46 mark. PC kept the puck in the zone and Brett Berard found Thompson in the slot and he quickly snapped a shot five-hole for his seventh of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Providence made it 2-0 at the 15:05 mark on Moynihan's fifth of the season. Greg Printz saw his shot blocked from out high with Moynihan camped in front of the net getting a stick on the puck to net. Vomacka got the initial stop but the Moynihan cleaned up his rebound, chipping it up over the UConn goaltender for a 2-0 lead.
2nd period:
The Huskies came up empty on their fourth power play chance of the night in the second period and PC's Stauber continued to keep the Husky offense stymied turning away all nine shots to keep it 2-0.
3rd period:
The Friars took a 3-0 lead with a power play goal coming off the stick of Ford at the 6:14 mark. Thompson got the puck in the right corner and fed Ford in the circle who buried his one-timer chance for this third on the season and three-goal lead.
The Huskies got a late power play chance at the 14:36 mark and pulled Vomacka to make it a 6-on-4 chance. The Friars picked-up an empty net goal as Thompson broke up a pass at the blue line and the puck made its way all the way down ice before a Husky could stop if from crossing the goal line to make it 4-0 at 16:03.
