- The UConn Huskies will take on the No. 11 Boston University Terriers in a home-and-home this weekend. The Huskies head to BU for a match-up at Walter Brown Arena and then will host the Terriers on Saturday in Storrs for a 4 pm face-off televised locally in Connecticut on the CW20.
- The Huskies are coming off a pair of losses last week as they saw a three-game winning streak come to an end with a 3-2 overtime loss at UMass Lowell and then got shutout for the first time this season, falling 4-0 at No. 16 Providence. With the two losses the Huskies fell out of the top-20 after making the program's debut on Feb. 8 at No. 20 in the USCHO.com Top-20 and No. 15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Top-15.
- The Huskies and Friars split their two games this season, each earning a home shutout. UConn and PC was scheduled for a game in Storrs last Saturday but the game was cancelled due to Covid-19 protocols with the Friars.Â
- In the overtime loss at UMass Lowell, the Huskies were down 2-1 heading into the third period and freshman Ryan Tverberg tied the game up with his third goal of the season to send the game to overtime, giving the Huskies a point. Junior Kale Howarth picked-up a goal for the second-straight game.
- Entering this weekend's games, the Huskies sit in fourth place in the most up to date Hockey East Power Index standings. UConn is fourth at 52.26, ahead of Providence in fifth (51.80) and Northeastern in sixth (51.24). BU sits in second place at 58.34 and is just behind rival Boston College for the top spot at 58.46.
- Junior Jonny Evans has been named a candidate for the 2021 Hobey Baker Award, given annually to college hockey's top player. Fan-voting online is now open thru March 7 at HobeyBaker.com/vote. Evans has a pair of Hockey East Player of the Week awards this year and his 22 points (12g/10a) is tops in the league and 11th in the nation. His 12 goals is leading the conference and is tied for fourth nationally.
- Junior goaltender Tomas Vomacka has played every minute for the Huskies as well as the most minutes by any Hockey East goaltender this season. He has made 515 saves, the most by any goalie in the league and ranks fourth in save percentage at .916 percent. His 2.58 goals against average is fourth among league leaders. Vomacka was named to the 2021 Mike Richter Award Watch List last week. This year's list consists of 35 goalies from across college hockey. The Mike Richter Award is given annually to the top goalie in men's NCAA Division I hockey since 2014.
- Junior Jachym Kondelik has 16 assists on the year to lead Hockey East and is tied for sixth nationally, averaging 0.89 assists per game.
- Rookie defenseman John Spetz was the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Month in January. Spetz had seven points in January on two goals and five assists. He also had 24 blocked shots during the month. On the season, he is tied for ninth in the league in rookie scoring (3g/6a) along with classmates Hudson Schandor (4g/5a) and Artem Shlaine (1g/8a). He is tied for 10th among all the league's defensemen in scoring. His 44 blocked shots leads Hockey East. He is averaging 2.59 per game, ranking sixth nationally.
- Freshman Artem Shlaine saw his season-long point streak end at seven games (1g/7a) in the 4-0 loss at Providence. Shlaine's streak was the longest by a Husky this season.
- The UConn power play opened the season just 3-for-42 (.071) through the season's first nine games but has scored a goal in six of the last 10 games (12-42/.286), second in Hockey East during that stretch. Junior Carter Turnbull is fourth in Hockey East with four power play goals and tied for eighth in power play points with seven (4g/3a).
