STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's hockey team got a shorthanded goal and an assist from junior Marc Gatcomb (Woburn, Mass.) but Maine scored three times in the second period to grab control and never look back on the way to a 6-4 win Friday afternoon at the Freitas Ice Forum.
The Huskies drop their fourth-straight and fall to 8-10-2 on the season while Maine improves to 3-9-1. Maine's AJ Drobot scored twice and JD Greenway added a goal and an assist to pace the Black Bears.
Friday's game featured a shorthanded goal for Gatcomb as well as penalty shot goals for both teams. After a 2-2 first period, Maine put three on the board in the second and never trailed after that.
The Huskies pulled within 5-3 in the third period on junior Jonny Evans' team-leading 13th goal of the season but Drobot put the stamp on the win with an empty net goal at 17:34 for his second on the night.
Maine freshman goaltender Victor Ostman made 40 saves to collect the win. The Huskies held a 52-19 advantage on shots but where also 0-for-3 on the power play.
1st period:
Gactcomb got his first of the night at the 7:03 mark, recording the Huskies third shorthanded goal on the season. With the puck cleared to the Maine zone, Gatcomb pressured the puck behind the net to then pick the defenseman's pocket and jam it in on the doorstep for a 1-0 lead.
Maine's Drobot answered at 11:53 breaking up ice to take a feed from Jakub Sirota for a breakaway chance, finishing it for his first of the year. UConn's Hudson Schandor (North Vancouver, British Columbia) was awarded a penalty shot at the 18:27 mark as the Huskies were killing another penalty and he buried his chance for his fifth on the year and a 2-1 lead.

Maine's first of three in the period came at 2:22 off the stick of Brady Gaudette and just 25 seconds later the Black Bears got a penalty shot chance. Jack Quinilvan put his team up 4-2 with first goal of the season.
The Black Bears made it 5-2 at the 7:52 mark as Greenway was able to get the puck through traffic and a deflection up and over Tomas Vomacka (Trutnov, Czech Republic) for his second of the season.
3rd period:
Evans pulled the Huskies to withing 5-3 at the 8:48 mark, taking a feed from Jachym Kondelik (Budejovice, Czech Republic) out of the left corner and cutting to the right post to bury one top-shelf.
