Huskies Grab First Win of 2021

LOWELL, Mass. – UConn senior Olivia Troy (Westport, Conn.) scored four goals to pace the Huskies to an 18-5 win at UMass Lowell Friday afternoon from Cushing Field.
The Huskies grab their first win of the 2021 season and even their record at 1-1. Troy's four goal effort led nine Huskies who found the back of the net on Friday.
UConn never trailed in the game Troy scored three of her goals in the first half. Sophomore Madelyn George (Rush, N.Y.) had a three-goal day, all coming in the first 30 minutes including two late as the Huskies outscored UML 6-1 over the final 15 minutes of the half. George also added four draw controls and won three ground balls on the day.
Senior Sydney Watson (Prince Frederick, Md.) had a three-goal game for the second time this season while classmate Stephanie Palmucci (Herndon, Va.) scored two and assisted on two more in the win. Watson added eight draw controls as the Huskies dominated on the draw, wining 17-8.
The River Hawks scored the first goal of the second half to pull withing 12-4 but the Huskies would put the game away over a 10 minute stretch where they ran off four-straight goals. Senior Lia LaPrise (Windsor, Conn.) scored a goal and dished two assists and sophomore Kate Shaffer (West Hartford, Conn.) added a pair.
UConn is back in action on Sunday afternoon, February 28 when they play host to the New Hampshire Wildcats in the 2021 home opener at the brand-new Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at Rizza Performance Center on campus.
