UConn Sprints Past UNH, 19-3

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's lacrosse team built a 12-0 lead in the first half on the way to sprinting past the New Hampshire Wildcats, 19-3, Sunday afternoon in their home opener at the Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at Riza Performance Center.
Nine different Huskies found the back of the cage while UConn outshot UNH 36-12 in the win. The Huskies also took advantage of all four UNH yellow cards, scoring a man-up goal on each possession.
UConn ran out to a 12-0 lead in the first half through the 8:10 mark. UNH got on the board just before the first half horn. The Huskies ran their lead to 15-1 over the first 14 minutes of the second to leave no doubt.
Senior Sydney Watson (Prince Fredrick, Md.) scored five goals including four of the Huskies' first eight on the day. She added an assist and also had eight draw wins and three ground balls. Junior Lia LaPrise (Windsor, Conn.) turned in a seven-point afternoon, scoring twice and passing out five assists. Senior Olivia Troy (Westport, Conn.) scored twice and assisted on two other UConn goals.
Freshman Lauren Barry (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored her first career goal in the win and finished the day with three tallies on the score sheet. Classmates Morgan Carter (Davidsonville, Md.) and Megan Whitley (Adams Center, N.Y.) also scored their first collegiate goals on Sunday.
In goal, junior Landyn White (Alpharetta, Ga.) made three saves int eh first half and earned the win. Senior Annie Carroll (Fallsington, Pa.) came on for the second half and also stopped three shots.
The Huskies will continue their homestand on Thursday, March 4 when they play host to the Albany Great Danes at 2 pm.
