Hamilton’s Hat Trick Lifts No. 6 Field Hockey to 6-0 Win at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore standout Sophie Hamilton scored three goals and added an assist while freshman Aiyi Young dished-out a pair of helpers to lead the No. 6 University of Connecticut field hockey team past Quinnipiac, 6-0, on Thursday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 5-1 on the year, including 4-1 in BIG EAST play.  The Bobcats slip to 1-3 on the year and all QU's games have been against BIG EAST opponents.

UConn got back to its winning ways after Sunday's loss against No. 5 Liberty snapped a 39-game regular-season winning streak in BIG EAST play, which dated back to the 2013 season.  When taking into account BIG EAST Tournament play, the Huskies had won 53-straight against conference opponents prior to Sunday.

Claire Jandewerth got the scoring started when she converted on a penalty corner at the 9:55 mark.  Jandewerth's score came thanks to assists from Hamilton and Young.

Hamilton would add an unassisted goal less than four-minutes later and Erica Solomen found the back of the net with less than four minutes remaining in the first half as the Huskies took a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime.

Hamilton would add some insurance with a pair of goals in the second half, the final one coming off a penalty stroke.

Connecticut dominated all facets of the contest, out-shooting QU 30-1 and creating 14 penalty corner opportunities without allowing the Bobcats a single penalty corner attempt.

The Huskies are back in action when the team welcomes No. 16 Saint Joseph's to the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
