STORRS, Conn. --Â The UConn women's soccer team (5-2-1, 3-2-1 BE) defeated Providence College (5-2, 3-2 BE) on Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium.
The Huskies and Friars played a scoreless first half in Storrs. UConn outshot Providence College 7-3, but neither side managed a shot on target. Sophomore Emma Zaccagnini had the best chance of the opening half for the Huskies, when her long-range shot hit the crossbar, but went out of the play.
In the second half, both teams recorded their first shots on goal within the first five minutes of play. The action would pick up as the teams exchanged promising chances in front of goals, but still were not able to break the deadlock.
Freshman Jaydah Bedoya broke the tie in the 70th minute after finishing sophomore Cara Jordan's attempt that went off the crossbar. Jordan cut through the Providence defense before rattling a shot off the bar that Bedoya was able to collect and tuck away for a 1-0 UConn lead. In the 75th minute, Bedoya took another shot from just outside of the 18-yard box that hit the crossbar but bounced off the line before being cleared by Providence.
Senior Yamilee Eveillard doubled the UConn lead, finishing off a feed from freshman Jada Konte. Moments later, redshirt senior goalkeeper Randi Palacios came up with a huge stop on a penalty shot to maintain the clean sheet. Palacios made seven saves to record her sixth clean sheet of the season as the Huskies won by a score of 2-0.
