STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team extended its winning streak to three games with a series opening win against Rhode Island, 9-6, on Friday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.

The Huskies trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning but were able to score seven unanswered runs to capture the victory.

Kyler Fedko hit the first UConn home run at Elliot Ballpark with a solo shot to left field in the fifth inning to make it a 5-3 deficit.

UConn tied the game in the sixth on a two-out, two-run single for Reggie Crawford. The UConn first baseman leads the team with five multi-RBI games this season.

The Huskies got a gift in the seventh inning with a throwing error from the Rams third baseman that allowed Andy Hague to reach and Erik Stock to come around and score the go-ahead run.

Kyler Fedko and Chris Winkel tacked on insurance runs in the ninth with each hitting a home run. For Kyler it was the second solo shot of the day and his third homer in last three games.

The three-year captain, Winkel, came off the bench as a defensive replacement and then stroked a two-run shot to make it 9-5 Huskies.

Caleb Wurster recorded the final five outs of the ballgame to earn his third save of the season.

Kenny Haus earned the win out of the bullpen with 2.1 scoreless innings with one hit allowed and two punch outs.

The Huskies and Rams will close the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark.

Kyler Fedko notched his second career multi-homer game (Presbyterian, March 2020).
