SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – UConn (1-4-1, 0-4-1 BIG EAST) men's soccer battled for 90 minutes but ultimately dropped a 1-0 decision at No. 15 Seton Hall (7-1-3, 5-1-2 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field.
The Huskies and Pirates combined for 28 shots but just six of those came on-goal, with the home team holding a slim two-shot advantage (4-2). Senior goalkeeper Jahmali Waite faced 18 shots on the afternoon, turning back 17 of them and collecting three saves.
Freshmen Giancarlo Vaccaro and Okem Chime tabbed the UConn shots that were on target. Vaccaro had an opportunity to give UConn the lead in the 37'. The forward shot one towards the top right of the cage, but Andreas Nota made the save to keep UConn off the board.
Chime's attempt came in the 66' as the Huskies were on a quest for the equalizer following the Pirates' goal at 58:28. Chime tried to beat Nota and placed his shot towards the bottom left corner, but UConn was denied at the doorstep once again as the Seton Hall keeper scooped the ball up.
The Huskies fired off three more shots in an effort to draw even and send the contest into overtime, but the attempts sailed high of the net and the home team was able to hold on for the victory.
