Huskies Fall to Villanova

VILLANOVA, Penn. – The UConn women's volleyball team fell to Villanova on Friday night. The Huskies fall to 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in Big East play. The Wildcats improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
How it Happened
The Wildcats jumped out to a 9-2 lead early in the first set and did not look back. They would hold onto the lead and take a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-14 victory in the opening set. The Huskies opened the second set on a 6-1 run to take control. UConn would maintain the lead and push the score to 18-9, their biggest lead of the set, forcing Villanova to call timeout. Out of the break, the Huskies would take the set 25-13 with the clinching kill from sophomore Allie Garland.
The third frame was a much more even set, with the teams sharing points at the midway mark. The Wildcats broke a 12-12 tie with a 4-0 run and would lead 21-18 late. UConn fought back with a 4-1 run to even the score at 22-22, forcing Villanova into a timeout. Following the break in action, the Wildcats would close out a tightly contested third set with a 26-24 victory and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
Much like the third, the fourth set began with back-and-forth action. Villanova held a slight advantage, up 9-8, before opening a 12-8 lead at the midway point of the set, forcing UConn to call a timeout. Trailing 21-14, UConn went on a 3-0 to bring the score to 21-17, forcing Villanova into a timeout. The Wildcats would hold onto their lead and take the final set 25-21, and the match 3-1.
Leading the Pack
Junior Caylee Parker led the Huskies with 14 kills and added a team-high 16 digs. Parker also added three blocks. Sophomore Allie Garland added nine kills, hitting at a .333 clip, and four digs and two blocks. Redshirt junior Courtney Morris led the team with 20 assists and added four kills and six digs.

The Huskies look to bounce back when they face Villanova again on Saturday night. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.
