STORRS, Conn. - UConn junior Grace Coon (Marcellus, N.Y.) was named the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week on Monday after helping the Huskies to a split on the road at Villanova over the weekend. It is the first career weekly award for Coon.
Coon led the BIG EAST in goals and points last week as the Huskies went 1-1 and clinched a berth in the BIG EAST Championship. The junior totaled 11 points off 10 goals and an assist while adding four ground balls and a caused turnover in a split weekend at Villanova. She scored six goals and grabbed three ground balls in Friday's 14-7 win before adding five points off four goals and a dish in Sunday's 13-12 setback.
On the season, she is second on the club with 31 goals scored and has 33 total points and leads the BIG EAST and is third in the country in shot percentage (.689). Coon has helped fuel a UConn offense that ranks tops in the BIG EAST in scoring at 14.79 goals per game. She is third in the league in goals per game (2.58).
Coon and the Huskies will close the regular season this weekend hosting Georgetown at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on Friday and Sunday, April 23 and 25.
