STORRS, Conn. - With a real feel temperature of 23 degrees, the UConn baseball team (11-12) beat UMass 9-2 on Friday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.

Starting pitcher Ben Casparius dominated on the hill with 7.0 shutout innings, scattering two hits and punching out eight. The right-hander exited with just 87 pitches thrown.

Pat Winkel got the Huskies on the board with an RBI double in the first. The UConn catcher had three hits on the day and drove in a pair.

His older brother, Chris, continued to swing a hot bat with a pair of hits of Friday, scored two runs and stole a pair of bases.

Christian Fedko and Reggie Crawford each added a pair of RBIs while Chris Brown and Ben Maycock each contributed runs at the bottom of the UConn order.

Freshman Bobby McBride made his UConn debut with a scoreless ninth inning that featured a pair of strikeouts.

UConn has won seven of its last nine games and will go for its third-straight series win with a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday.

Chris Winkel has six multi-hit games this season. Three of them have come in the last four games.
