BSB Splits Series at Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The UConn baseball team (18-14, 4-2 BIG EAST) experienced a day filled with the highs and lows of a college baseball season.
The Huskies started the day resuming game three of the series, a game which lasted four hours and 55 minutes on Monday and was suspended due to darkness. UConn came out in the top of the 12th and took a 14-13 lead on a Zach Bushling safety squeeze bunt to bring Chris Winkel home from third.
Kyler Fedko followed with a solo homer to left to push the UConn lead to 15-13. Kenny Haus came on in the bottom of the 12th and got out of a bases loaded, one-out jam with a pop up and ground out to Erik Stock at third to complete a seven-run comeback win.
In the series finale, the Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the fifth after an Erik Stock solo homer.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Musketeers responded with a pair of home runs that gave Xavier a 3-2 advantage.
The game remained that way until the eighth when the Huskies mounted a rally. Kyler Fedko walked, Kevin Ferrer singled and Reggie Crawford walked to load the bases.
Christian Fedko delivered a sac fly to tie the game at 3-3 and Ben Maycock followed with a chopper up the middle that was mishandled and allowed the Huskies to push across the go-ahead run.
In the bottom of the eighth, Crawford came over from first base and got a pair of ground outs to strand the tying and potential go-ahead runs in scoring position.
Kyler Fedko hit his seven home run of the year, a solo shot, to extend the lead in the ninth.
However, Xavier battled back and Alex Helmin hit a game-winning three-run homer to earn a series split for the Musketeers.
UConn will return to the field on Friday at 6 p.m. against Butler for a four-game BIG EAST series at Elliot Ballpark.
