UConn Set for Match at No. 2 Georgetown

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team (1-5-1, 0-5-1 BIG EAST) prepares for a big weekend test as they travel to Washington, D.C. for a tilt with the second-ranked Georgetown (5-0-2, 5-0-2 BIG EAST). Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Shaw Field.

Last Time Out…

UConn fell in its midweek BIG EAST tilt, dropping a 4-1 decision at Villanova Wednesday afternoon at the Higgins Soccer Complex.
UConn recorded four shots on-goal – three in the first and one in the second. The attempts came off the feet of Giancarlo Vaccaro (2x), Kai Griese, and Ahdan Tait. Goalkeeper Jahmali Waite collected six saves in the loss.
Jayden Reid played a beautiful through ball to Vaccaro, and the freshman refused to be denied again – drilling one into the back of the cage to level the score at one at 13:43

Scouting the Opponent…

Georgetown used a big second-half push to defeat the Providence College Friars on Saturday.
Junior Giannis Nikopolidis was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, while senior Rio Hope-Gund and sophomore Aidan Rocha were both tabbed for the Weekly Honor Roll when the league announced awards on Monday.
Nikopolidis was also named the United Soccer Coaches Division I College Player of the Week after making eight saves for the Hoyas to preserve the win, with five of his saves coming in the first half while the score was still knotted at zero.
Georgetown is currently ranked No. 2 in the country in both the United Soccer Coaches Poll and in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll. The Hoyas sit atop both the league and East Division standings at 5-0-2 (0.857).

The Hoyas are 11-14-4 all-time against the Huskies and 9-4-1 at home. The last meeting was a 4-1 Georgetown victory back in 2019.
